Launch of the Friends of Kirkcudbright Galleries
Friday 23 March 2018

Organisers were delighted to host a gathering of over 100  guests in Kirkcudbright Parish Church Hall last week to attend the launch of the ‘Friends of Kirkcudbright Galleries’ – a group set up to support the new Kirkcudbright Galleries due to open in Kirkcudbright Town Hall shortly.

The Friends initiative has been put in place by the Kirkcudbright 2000 group, which was responsible for organising a series of highly successful summer art exhibitions in Kirkcudbright Town Hall from the year 2000. The exhibition series promoted the concept of establishing a gallery of national significance in Kirkcudbright, and now that objective has been achieved, the group wishes to support the gallery through setting up the Friends scheme.

Sir Malcolm Ross welcomed all to the event and introduced Rachael Dilley, Arts Officer in the Council’s Arts and Museums Service, who described the facilities of the new gallery and detailed the exciting programme of exhibitions planned for the next two years.  David Devereux (Kirkcudbright 2000) then outlined the Friends scheme and described how the group would be able to aid the gallery through its membership income, for example in providing financial assistance to help bring top-quality touring art exhibitions to the town.

Annual membership of the Friends costs £20 per person or £30 per couple and is free for young people under 18; Life membership is £150 and until the end of April, there is the  opportunity to become a Founder Patron at £250; as well as enjoying Life membership, Founder Patrons’ generosity will also be permanently recorded in the new gallery.  The benefits of Friends’ membership includes invitations to exhibition previews as well as discounts in the gallery’s shop and café. Friends will also receive a regular newsletter to keep them up to date with exhibitions and events in the gallery.

Friends’ membership is open to all and application forms can be collected from Kirkcudbright Library, the Stewartry Museum and the Tolbooth Art Centre in Kirkcudbright.
